Safety Tips & Helpful Hints
- Keep collets clean & replace when worn — most breakages trace to ovalised collets.
- Insert shank ≥ 19 mm (¾″); shallow clamping causes breakage and wear.
- Tighten the collet securely before every cut.
- Store bits properly in pouches; don’t let them roll around in a toolbox.
- Clean bearings with solvent, then lubricate with light oil.
- Sharpen regularly — service at the first sign of dullness, poor finish, or chipped edges.
- Prefer ½″ (12.7 mm) shanks for stability and less chatter.
- Use a router table/fence for bits > 38 mm (1½″); reduce speed and make multiple passes.
- Feed against rotation and use jigs/fixtures.
- Always wear PPE — glasses, ear protection, dust mask, and dust extraction.
